How to Survive Mommy Burnout
Do you often feel like you just can’t take being a mommy one more day? Do you ever get want to change your name from Mommy to something else, something your little ones or teens won’t recognize? If the answer to either of these questions is yes, then you’ve probably got “Mommy Burnout”.
Mommy Burnout is normal, so don’t ever feel like you’re a bad mother because you have had thoughts or experienced the aboveĀ from time to time. Mom’s do so much for everyone else that we often forget to stop and take a moment for ourselves. But one thing is for certain, we must stop and take some time to ourselves or we will experience Mommy Burnout.
One way to make time for you is to schedule a night to yourself, once a week if possible, but at least once a month for sure. Make it a special night that your hubby can spend with the kids. If you are a single mom, then a grandparent or other relative will most likely be willing to spend that quality time with your kids, allowing you time by yourself or with your girlfriends. Then go to a movie, not a cartoon or animated movie either, but one you really want to see, a chick flick or other film you wouldn’t take your kids to. Or, have an all adult game night. We often have game night with the family, but we never get to play adult games like Euchre or Scrabble.
If you are in the throws of Mommy Burnout, take immediate action now. Call your Mom or your Mother in Law to come and take the kids for a few hours. If you feel you need to get out of the house, do it. If you feel you want to have the house to yourself, then draw a hot bubble bath, light some candles and relax with your favorite book. Or put in one of those movies you never get to watch and enjoy with a glass of wine, if that’s your thing.
Then once you’re relaxed, plan out a way to get some much needed alone time on a regular basis. You will feel much better about yourself, your kids and life as a whole.
