Movie Review: Couple’s Retreat
Posted on21. Nov, 2009 by Mary Lutz.
Last night I had the fun pleasure of going to the movies with my 2 daughters, my son’s girlfriend and another friend of ours who is actually my oldest daughter’s sister-in-law. Now that we got that all straight….LOL. My oldest daughter’s birthday was the 12th and due to busy schedules we never took the time to celebrate her birthday properly. She called and wanted to go to the movies since her hubby was available to watch her 2 boys and Thursday’s are ladies night at our theater. We decided to see Couple’s Retreat with Vince Vaughn, Malin Akerman, Jason Bateman, Faizon Love, Kristin Davis, Kristen Bell, Jon Favreau, and Kali Hawk.
In the movie, 4 couples embark on a trip to what seems like paradise, but when they arrive they find somewhat of a different setting. Sure, it looks like paradise, but the owner’s have their own agenda, which makes for some great comedy opps as well as sets the plot for the story. I don’t want to give too much away, so I won’t really get into the details of the movie itself. I will say, however, there are some really funny parts, a couple of unnecessary raunchy scenes and I think it ended too abruptly.
This movie is definitely not for kids due to the sexual innuendos in the film and it’s not something I’d probably rent or ever wish to see again. If the sexual references were left out, it would be a great movie for date night or ladies night out. There are some good points made about marriage, but the sexual references over shadow the whole film making it a thumb’s down for me.

Movie Review: The Proposal
Posted on13. Nov, 2009 by Mary Lutz.
The Proposal, starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds, and featuring Mary Steenburgen, Craig T. Nelson and Betty White, is my new favorite romantic comedy.
Let me start of by saying it is definitely the comedy that makes this my new favorite movie! Ryan Reynolds sarcastic humor is awesome. His facial expressions and tone are perfect for responding to Sandra Bullock’s character’s witchy attitude.
I’ve never laughed so hard during a movie before. I think it has something to do with as we watch Margaret’s (Sandra Bullock) walls come down, we get to see the fun side of her and she really lets loose. I think there’s that person inside of all of us that wants to be able to just let loose, without a care in the world, and Sandra Bullock’s wit and natural ability to be silly makes her character hilarious throughout the movie.
Well I won’t give too much more away, but if you want to see a great movie with your spouse, The Proposal is a great date night choice! There is one nudity scene, but you don’t see any private parts and there are no sexual scenes, although there are one or two sexual innuendos. Therefore I wouldn’t recommend it for kids, but adults, both male and female will enjoy The Proposal.
